Care guide
As longevity is defined by material and wear, we recommend the following care to preserve your Monies jewellery over time.
General
Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams and other liquids directly onto jewellery.
Remove jewellery before bathing, swimming in salt or chlorinated water, and before exercising.
Avoid impact against hard surfaces.
Storage
Keep jewellery away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperatures. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch and original box. For sterling silver, include an anti-tarnish strip. Avoid storing jewellery in bathrooms.
Cleaning
Wipe gently after wear with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use only a soft slightly damp cloth. Do not use hot water, harsh chemicals, solvents, ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
Servicing
Elastics, cord and clips will become looser after years of regular use. Both can be tightened or alternatively replaced with new ones. Silicone pads for earclips can easily be replaced with new ones if needed.
Gold- and metallic foils
Avoid water exposure. Moisture can make the foil porous, and regular contact with skin or liquids may lead to oxidation over time. Keep away from perfumes, lotions, and cleaning agents.
Pearls
Wear pearls regularly to preserve their natural glow. Keep them dry and away from perfume and hairspray. After wear, wipe gently with a soft cloth and store flat in a pouch.
Gemstones
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear and store pieces separately to prevent scratching.
Softer or porous stones (e.g., tourmaline, opal, turquoise, malachite, lapis) are especially sensitive. Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning and prolonged moisture. Natural variations, inclusions, and colour differences are part of the material’s character.
Leather and wood
As natural materials, leather and wood evolve over time: colours deepen, surfaces soften, and character matures. Keep these materials away from water, heat, and prolonged sun. To refresh the surface, use a tiny amount of neutral lotion, free from alcohol and perfume, then wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid oils or lotions near threads, metallic foils, or elastic.
Sterling silver
Use a high-quality silver polishing cloth. Silver naturally oxidises and darkens if not polished regularly. Store separately with an anti-tarnish strip, and avoid liquid silver dips, especially near other materials as pearls, gemstones, wood, or bone.
Bone
Cow bone can gradually absorb natural skin oils and creams and develop a soft honey-gold tone. This patina is normal and part of the material’s beauty. Keep bone dry and out of direct sun.
